In the article below, Nancy Liu Chin explains so well the complexities of wedding flower delivery and installation. At Thallo, we typically charge anywhere from 10-30% of the final flower total to cover delivery and installation of the event. This charge covers delivery to two locations (usually ceremony and reception venue) and is based on the complexity of logistics for the day. Like Nancy Liu Chin, Thallo’s team personally places and styles each wedding until the last detail is sorted out. If we have to do a lot of work on-site, if the venues are far away or if there is a very short turn around time, the percentage goes up. It usually takes us around 2.5 hours to prepare our van. Mindful loading and packing is always of great importance, especially in hot Florida weather. For most of the year, we must use ice packs, insulated foam, etc. to ensure that everything arrives looking “fresh as a flower” (pun intended). In fact, yesterday we even added ice packs to our boutonniere and flower girl accessories!
In the current economic climate, wedding clients are scrutinizing every charge, understandably. Often, when we finalize proposals and calculate the installation and delivery charge, we are surprised by the number. However, taking into account how many moving parts are involved in transporting, moving and executing event flowers and decor… whew, I am exhausted just thinking about it!
